Albert’s experience in the sustainable seafood world provides the springboard for the Global Tuna Alliance’s expansion plans into the Americas.
Albert brings more than 20 years of experience in fisheries management and sustainability, both nationally and internationally, to the Global Tuna Alliance (GTA). Albert worked for Fishchoice helping with the development of Fisheryprogress.org since its early days, NOAA fisheries and with FishWise as a consultant. At the same time, he was a member of the Chilean delegation for the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation and its Scientific Committee.
Prior to that, he was a consultant for the Marine Stewardship Council and fishing industry and worked as a Quality Assurance Team Leader at “Select Fish” Whole Foods Market. Earlier in his career, he worked in Chile as a lobbyist in Congress for companies whose interest was to achieve a transparent and accountable fisheries management system.
Albert holds a Master of Marine Affairs degree from the University of Washington and a B.S in Marine biology from the University of Concepcion, Chile.
In his new role as Director of Outreach & Engagement, Albert will support the Executive Director in delivery of the GTA’s 5-year strategy and deepen engagement with current partners and grow and develop new partner relationships. In addition, Albert will lead the GTA’s engagement with the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) and the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT).
Dr Tom Pickerell, Executive Director at the Global Tuna Alliance, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Albert to the GTA and am excited to work with him, particularly in building the GTA’s membership in the Americas.”
