July Partner Spotlight: METRO Group

METRO Group has been a GTA Partner for a while now, but their French branch recently joined the wave of companies opting in to the GTA’s new Module Complémentaire. We are excited to learn more about them in today’s spotlight!

Q: Can you give us a brief overview of what your company does?

A: METRO Group is a company specializing in the wholesale trade of food and non-food products for independent catering professionals. The brand is present in more than 30 countries, mainly in Europe. METRO France, which is part of METRO Group, is the leading supplier for independent and commercial catering in France.

Q: What do you think makes your company unique?

A: METRO is committed to defending the professions of catering and independent trade, which are the primary defenders of French culinary traditions, by offering solutions to help them structure themselves to face the competition from restaurant chains and large retailers. METRO is also committed to local sourcing, by strengthening partnerships with local producers who supply the METRO Halls located less than 100 km from their operations. These local products carry unique expertise and must be supported to prevent their disappearance.

Q: How has collaboration shaped your company, or how do you see collaborative efforts playing a role in its future?

A: METRO France’s positioning as a B2B wholesaler offers particular proximity both with its suppliers and its professional clients, which has helped strengthen partnerships both upstream and downstream. But this is not limited to our direct partners but extends to our entire ecosystem. This is a real strength for METRO to reinforce our territorial anchoring, our international market reach, and our position as the leading player in independent and commercial catering.

Q: What benefits does the GTA provide that you feel have helped your company in its tuna sustainability journey?

A: The GTA offers monitoring and support on various themes related to tuna fishing issues. The complementary module will also allow us to map and monitor our tuna supplies to ensure that our suppliers adhere to our specifications.

Q: What motivates you to prioritize sustainable seafood?

A: Seafood, particularly tuna, are endangered species, and it is important to preserve this resource by practicing sustainable fishing to allow species to replenish.
